One of the most common questions we receive during consultations — right after “How much will I save?” — is this: “Should I get an On-Grid system or a Hybrid system?”

It’s an important question. The right answer depends on your specific situation, your priorities, and honestly — how much you value energy independence. Let me break both options down completely so you can make an informed decision.

On-Grid Solar: Maximum Savings, Lower Upfront Cost

An On-Grid system (also called a grid-tied system) connects directly to the Meralco network. Your panels generate electricity, power your home, and any excess is exported to the grid under the net metering program for bill credits. At night or on cloudy days, you draw from the grid as normal.

The advantages are significant:

  • Lower system cost — No batteries means lower upfront investment. Our Solis On-Grid packages start at ₱170,000 for a 3kWp system.
  • Maximum savings efficiency — Every kWh your system produces either powers your home or earns you a credit. Nothing is stored at lower efficiency.
  • Simpler system — Fewer components means lower maintenance requirements and longer system lifespan.
  • Fastest payback period — Without the cost of batteries, ROI is typically 2–4 years.

The one limitation: During a power outage, your On-Grid system automatically shuts down. This is a safety requirement — it prevents your panels from back-feeding the grid while Meralco workers are making repairs. If power outages are a significant concern for you, a Hybrid system is worth considering.

Hybrid Solar: Energy Independence and Backup Power

A Hybrid system adds a battery storage unit to your solar setup. During peak solar hours, excess energy charges your battery bank instead of (or in addition to) being exported to the grid. When the grid goes down — whether from a typhoon, a scheduled outage, or an infrastructure failure — your battery keeps your home powered.

The advantages are compelling for the right customer:

  • 24/7 solar power — Use solar energy stored during the day to power your home at night, reducing grid dependence further.
  • Blackout protection — Your home or business stays powered during grid outages. Ideal for areas with frequent brownouts or for businesses where downtime is costly.
  • Energy independence — The more battery capacity you add, the less you depend on Meralco for anything.

🔋 Battery Storage Options Available at Solar Home

Standard — Dyness Battery:
5 kWh capacity: ₱95,000  |  10 kWh: ₱155,000  |  15 kWh: ₱245,000

Premium — Huawei LUNA Battery:
5 kWh capacity: ₱310,000  |  10 kWh: ₱570,000  |  15 kWh: ₱800,000

Battery add-ons can be paired with any inverter package.

So Which One Should You Choose?

Choose On-Grid if: Your area has relatively stable power supply, you want the fastest ROI, and your primary goal is eliminating your monthly electricity bill.

Choose Hybrid if: Your area experiences frequent brownouts or outages, you run a business where power continuity is critical, you want maximum energy independence, or you’re planning for the long term and want to future-proof your home.

Our most popular recommendation for Filipino households: Start with On-Grid for maximum savings at minimum cost. The technology and battery prices are improving every year — you can always add battery storage later as an upgrade.

A Note on Solis vs. Huawei Inverters

Regardless of which system type you choose, you’ll select between our two inverter brands. Both are excellent — the difference is in features and connectivity:

  • Solis — Proven reliability, excellent performance-to-cost ratio, widely serviced in the Philippines. The smart choice for most homeowners.
  • Huawei — Premium smart inverter with AI-powered optimization, real-time monitoring via the FusionSolar app, and superior performance in partially-shaded conditions. The choice if you want full visibility into every kWh your system produces.
